Inspired by Middle Eastern architecture, two twisted organic shapes are nestled between cones that reach upwards to a spire.
Zig Zag (large totem) - 72" x 24" x 20" - Stoneware and steel
Abstract geometric and organic 3-D forms move in different directions. Brightly colored patterns create a sense of energy and movement in the small totem sculpture. “Directing” was inspired by the often frenetic and chaotic pace of driving through the urban landscape. The sculpture was constructed with extruded and press-molded coils of clay. It was finished with a variety of underglazes, cone 6 glazes and a metal base. Because of the nature of the clay, “Directing” can be displayed indoors or as a garden sculpture.
Rising - 70" x 12" x 5" - Stoneware and steel
Abstract organic forms fit together like puzzle pieces as they move up a steel base. Patterns of brightly colored ropes of clay wrap around the forms creating movement and emphasis. "Rising" was inspired by urban towers-- architectural, commercial and industrial. The sculpture was fashioned with extruded and press-molded coils of stoneware. It was finished with a variety of underglazes and cone 6 glazes. Because of the nature of the clay, the sculpture can be displayed inside or in a garden.

Popping (large totem) - 52" x 9" x 5" - Stoneware and steel
Small abstract organic 3-D forms push and protrude out of larger half spheres. Energetically the forms climb a metal rod until they break out at the top. A variety of brightly colored patterns of stripes create a feeling of liveliness and cheerfulness. "Popping" was inspired by the often repetitiveness and chaos of living in an urban landscape. The totemic sculpture was constructed with extruded and press-molded coils of clay. It was finished with different underglazes, cone 6 glazes, and a metal base. Because of the nature of the clay, "Popping" can be displayed inside or as a garden sculpture.
Muscling (large totem) - 73" x 24" x 10" - Stoneware and steel
Abstract geometric and organic 3-D forms push their way up a metal rod until finally reaching the top. Sensuous colors and striped patterns emphasize the bulging forms as they twist and turn in different directions. "Muscling" was inspired by the growing natural plants and weeds one sees pushing out of gardens and concrete walkways in the urban landscape. The sculpture was created with extruded and press-molded coils of clay. It was finished with a variety of underglazes, cone 6 glazes, and a steel base. Because of the nature of the clay, "Muscling" can be displayed inside and as a garden sculpture.
